Finding healing through photos
Women’s Story Project
What is this?
The short version: Authentic, stripped-down portrait photography to capture the stories of women all over the United States.
For the individual I have one hope for our time together: that you can connect with yourself and truly feel enough just as you are.
My second hope and why I call this a project, is to create a body of work that celebrates the paradoxical relationship of the simultaneous diversity and sameness as womxn around the United States. Our strength is in our individuality and our strength is in being able to see our own joys and struggles in those of others.
Does this sound like something you want to be a part of?
The long version:
We’re going to borrow from Simon Sinek and start with why.
Why?
We’re told we’re enough (thank you Brené Brown) but how many of us truly believe those words in the tiny dark corners of our minds, in the broken bits of our hearts, in the wrinkly, wobbly bits of our bodies?
I sure as hell struggle with this daily. And I think this is worse for womxn. Culturally, we’ve been raised to believe that we’re never enough.
Through portraits and words, I believe we can heal.
Heal ourselves and our culture.
Through portraits, I believe we can grant ourselves permission.
Permission to be:
Seen.
To take up space.
To be enough exactly as we are today.
Who?
Tall, fat, dark, light, trans, tattooed, dimpled, pimpled, freckled, old, young, lost, found, curious, quiet, short, fast, slow, kind, fierce, stubborn, brave. All of the above. None of the above. A messy beautiful melting pot. This is for all womxn.
Let’s celebrate our unique beauty. Let’s celebrate our always entwined humanity.
What?
Our time together will most likely start with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine so that we can get to know each other a little more personally. Next we’ll venture out somewhere familiar to you, typically outside and often significant and we’ll spend about an hour taking photos. These are unposed, unfussy, raw-ish (but don’t be scared) portraits.
Come just as you are.

Hi, I’m Tori!
I’m a photographer, writer, runner, baker, and a whole lot of other things based in Bozeman, Montana.
This project is born out of years of wanting to photograph women in a more meaningful way but never quite knowing what that looked like in the living breathing world. To be frank, I’m still not quite sure, but my heart said, ‘start where you’re at.’
This project is born out of recent struggles with disordered eating that have highlighted just how not enough I’ve felt.
This project is born out of the realization that I’m a privileged white woman and yet when I look at the examples of what it means to be a woman in our culture, I still feel like I don’t fit. What the hell must it be like if you’re you’re a human even further ‘outside the norm’?
And this project is born out of the way photography has served as a healing tool in my own life.
